Opening Keynote by Martin LeBlanc
Monday, September 22 | 5:00pm - 6:00pm

Martin is the National Youth Education Director of the Sierra Club, and also serves as the Vice President of the Board of Directors for the Children and Nature Network which is Chaired by Richard Louv, author of Last Child in the Woods. Martin has had a passion for the outdoors since having his own life turned around through an outdoor experience as a teenager. Before working for the Sierra Club, Martin was an outdoor education advocate for Texas Parks and Wildlife in Austin, Texas and was also an outdoor educator for Youthnet a non-profit in Mount Vernon, Washington in the mid 90's. Martin believes "every child in America deserves their own special place in nature.

A Seattle native, LeBlanc admits the outdoors saved him from a life of drugs and alcohol.

At age 16, and described by his father as a “self-indulgent pig,” LeBlanc was given a choice: attend military school for a year or an Outward Bound course in Maine.

“At age 16, nature humbled me. I realized the world is bigger than Martin LeBlanc,” he said of the outdoors course. “This is my passion, it saved my life. I was lucky because I had parents who cared and had the resources to send me somewhere. My goal is to give every child in America that outdoor opportunity,” he says.
