It is March Madness!
Here in the Raleigh-Durham, NC area… that means BASKETBALL!  I guess for camp folks, it means “Oh my gosh… the campers will be arriving soon and I still need to hire staff, repair cabins and purchase equipment!”  Either way – it is an exciting and busy time.  And, even though we have a printed newsletter being sent out very soon, there are a few things that needed to go out in a more timely fashion – hence the reason for this email.

Online Social Networking
A topic/issue that has more recently gained attention from camp directors, the news media and law enforcement officials at times is that of online social networking sites (www.myspace.com and www.facebook.com being two of the more popular).  Camp directors have asked many questions regarding what is learned on these sites, etc. And, ACA realizes this significance.  In the most recent Inside ACA, there was a great article addressing many of these thoughts. And, there was recently a conference call with both ACA Staff and ACA Volunteers discussing what type of support ACA might offer directors.  One thing that is being offered:  An online discussion group regarding this topic.  Please read (or re-read) the article from Inside ACA and to sign up for the on-line discussion group.  As you know, often a camp director’s best resource is other camp professionals.

Moving On...
It is with regrets I have to let everyone know that Jackie Watling, our Membership Services Coordinator, will be leaving us at the end of this week.  An opportunity she could not refuse has presented itself. I am sure you join me as we wish Jackie the best… even though we will miss her and the talents she brought to the Section office.

Attention NC Camps!
March 27 is the final day to make comments/recommendations on the PROPOSED REVISIONS to the Rules Governing the Sanitation of Summer Camps.  This is the set of rules that a group has been working on for the past 4-5 years.  Please e-mail Rhonda Mickelson to receive a copy of the regulations.
